A warm welcome to our school...
I’m delighted and incredibly proud, as the Headteacher, to welcome you to Grove Street Primary School, a Therapeutic School and Centre of Excellence for Inclusion and Oracy (Voice 21) and a School of Sanctuary. Our school ensures that the child and their family are at the very centre of everything we do.
We are fully committed to ensuring that every child has a champion and ensuring their emotional, social and academic needs are exceptionally well met. All children are valued, respected and supported to develop to their full potential. As a local Family Hub at the heart of our community, we support children from birth and have Early Years Provision from 2 years old. We are a 2 form entry in the mainstream classes, we also have LA resourced provision bases for children with ASC / social communication needs, with further bases planned for September 2025.
Our vision is that we go above and beyond to support our children and families. At our core is our belief that mental health and wellbeing weaves through all aspects of school. We value every child’s uniqueness, as such, we discuss every child, as an individual every half term to talk about their wellbeing, involvement, attendance, progress, friendships, any concerns and planned actions to support. We are lucky to have a highly-skilled, committed team who strive for the upmost success for our children and who have a caring and supportive ethos at their core.
We are relentless in our drive to improve standards for our children, using evidence based approaches and have an excellent track record of supporting children who need the support the most to ensure that all our children can achieve.
We are passionate about reading and are determined that every child will be a confident reader, to open up a world of exciting learning and opportunities for them. We have been a Read, Write Inc. school since September 2018, our children our taught in small groups according to their stage of learning and we have a dedicated reading leader. Reading is embedded across the curriculum and we actively promote reading for pleasure in a homely environment.
As a Centre of Excellence for Oracy, spoken language and oracy skills are given significant importance within our curriculum. This focus empowers children to communicate effectively, express themselves confidently, and engage in meaningful discussions. Our curriculum ensures that there is no compromise on academic standards. The curriculum is grounded in research and evidence-based practices. This commitment to research ensures that educational strategies and interventions are informed by the latest findings, providing children with the most effective learning opportunities.By embracing a open entry, high-expectations approach, children are encouraged to reach their full potential, with adaptations where necessary to suit their individual needs. High quality teaching and learning is therefore at the core of our approach.
I’m passionate about safeguarding the intrinsic value of childhood, ensuring that all our children can enjoy a magical childhood at Grove Street, full of exciting and challenging learning experiences, nurtured well-being and friendships. I truly believe that every child has the ability to succeed whatever their starting point and I want each child to flourish to achieve their full and unique potential and are inspired to become confident, resilient learners.

“Leaders and staff set out high expectations for pupils’ achievement. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), respond positively to the high expectations set out by staff. Pupils achieve well due to a strong and effective curriculum. Children in the early years are well prepared for the demands of Year 1.”
“Leaders have developed an ambitious curriculum which begins right from the moment that children enter the early years. Leaders continually refine the curriculum to make sure it meets the needs of pupils, including children in the Nursery and Reception classes. They have carefully considered what pupils must learn in each subject. Subject leaders are well informed about their curriculum areas through continuous training and research.”
