ADHD

We support all of our children as though they have ADHD, regardless of diagnosis. They have access to a wide range of resources to aid their concentration such as:

  • fidget toys
  • wobble cushions
  • exercise balls
  • regular brain breaks
  • opportunities to access calm areas in class or middle bay
  • use of iPads
  • table screens

Two of our Year 6 children, both diagnosed with ADHD, spoke to the children around school also diagnosed with ADHD. They asked them a range of questions and their thoughts and opinions were shared with class staff to further support them and all learners in school.

Some of the things the children said were:

'I like to use the middle bay when things become too much.'

'Fidget toys help me to concentrate on my work.'

'I like to sit on an exercise ball when I'm doing my work at my desk.'

We are currently looking at how we can make our classrooms even more ADHD friendly. In Year 3, the children are trialling alternative seating to support the needs of different learners.

If you think your child is showing traits of ADHD, please contact their class teacher in the first instance who will then inform the SENCo. If school has also identified specific behaviours linked to ADHD then the SENCo will make contact with you to complete the necessary paperwork.
