Neurodiversity
At Grove Street we pride ourselves on supporting neurodiversity. We believe that neurodevelopmental conditions should be seen in a positive way and in order to promote this, we celebrate Neurodiversity Week each year. Children learn about the various conditions such as ADHD, ASC, Dyslexia, Dyslcalculia, Dyspraxia and Tourette's Syndrome and how these may impact a person's life. By learning about these, children develop a sense of understanding and empathy which in turn supports those with a diagnosis.
Resources
Children do not need to be formally diagnosed for them to benefit from the wide range of support we offer. Some of the resources we have available are:
- fiddle/fidget toys to aid concentration
- coloured overlays/reading rulers to support reading
- coloured exercise books/paper to support reading and writing
- weighted blankets to help children feel safe and grounded
- ear defenders to support with sensitivity to loud noises
- sloping writing boards to support handwriting
- wobble cushions to support concentration
- excerise balls to support proprioceptive needs
