Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Sensory and/or physical needs is one of four broad areas of need that is used when identifying and supporting individual difficulties in children.
Some children may have a medical and/or physical need that requires a plan of support to be provided in order for them to be able to reach their full potential. Where this is the case, the SENCo will liaise with both parents and teaching staff to create an Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP) to highlight specific areas of need and how these should be supported. The plans are a working document and are reviewed on a yearly basis or more frequently if required.
For those children will a higher level of need, advice is sought from Jayne Catton, the Local Authority advisory teacher for children with medical or physical needs. Along with this, support is also provided from the vision and hearing teams, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Often programmes of support are provided by professionals and delivered in school.
